On July 28th, Douglas Herbert challenged eight-term incumbent Rodney Frelinghuysen to an honest and open debate about the issues facing the hardworking people of New Jersey and America. Although Frelinghuysen has yet to respond, newspapers and opinion pages across the Eleventh District have lined up in support of Doug’s proposal.
From the Daily Record:
“We urge Frelinghuysen to accept the offer and to work with Herbert’s camp to set up some debates this fall…. A discussion of issues is nothing to be feared.”
From the Observer Tribune:
“The stakes are too high for voters to have to rely on pre-crafted statements. They deserve to know, directly from the candidates, why they voted the way they did.
The public deserves to know Frelinghuysen’s reasons, from him, and not from GOP talking points. He should put his views out and let his opponent test them. There is nothing that delivers fresh air to a political campaign better than head to head competition.”
From the Morris County Citizen:
“The fact that Frelinghuysen is among the great majority of Republicans who are in lockstep with the party leadership constitutes perhaps the greatest reason why the congressman should agree to debate his Democratic opponent, Douglas Herbert.”
