<p>It has been and honor and a pleasure working with you these past six months. Although the result last night was not what we had hoped for, the journey was a victory in itself.</p>
<p>I hope you remember the issues and the people we stood for- the small business owners who are being squeezed, the teachers who deserve our support not vilification and all those Americans living on the edge who are in need of our support.</p>
<p>Teddy Roosevelt once said, &#8220;The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly, who errs and comes up short again and again, because there is no effort without error or shortcoming.&#8221;</p>
<p>You all deserve the credit. Thank you for your support and thank you for your time.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>My oldest son often stops by my campaign headquarters, and one night, on the drive home, we were discussing his plans for college. Inevitably – and I am sure many parents will attest to this – I began to think about his future. My son will soon be on his own, trying to forge his own path, and I wondered about the world he will inherit.</p>
<p>I thought about decisions that I have faced: my decision to drop out of College and join the Army, returning four years later to finish my degree; my decision to attend law school and eventually to open my own firm.</p>
<p>The decisions I made were difficult at the time, but now they seem clear. We are a country faced with tough decisions. One of them is the election this Tuesday, November 2<sup>nd</sup>.</p>
<p>We must ask ourselves, is the status-quo acceptable? If not, has Rodney Frelinghuysen shown independent leadership during this time of economic uncertainty?</p>
<p>Mr. Frelinghuysen has found himself in an unfortunate niche in Congress of late, the niche of a career politician. Having been in Congress for 16 years, he has increasingly given in to his party at the expense of our District.</p>
<p>Over the last two years, he voted against nine tax cuts for small businesses while simultaneously voting to bail out the banks.</p>
<p>He also talks about the importance of investing in education, yet two months ago, he voted against a deficit-neutral bill that saved the jobs of 3,900 New Jersey teachers.</p>
<p>We cannot take his supposed fiscal responsibility seriously with these votes. Moreover, the fact that in the midst of a recession he was one of only seven Congressmen to increase their pork-barrel projects illustrates how out of touch he is with our District’s values.</p>
<p>The Eleventh District deserves a Congressman with strong economic and fiscal policies. As a small business owner, I understand that small businesses are the engine of our economic growth. That is why I have proposed a three-point plan to jumpstart small businesses. I will fight to provide payroll tax credits to small businesses that hire Americans who are out of work. I will fight to expand guaranteed loan programs and credit lines that will provide small businesses with the resources to grow. Lastly, I will fight for investments and tax credits for competitive research grants that will help the Eleventh District innovate. As a result, our district can expect new, high paying, and secure jobs.</p>
<p>While focusing on the current jobs crisis, I will not ignore the long-term threat of crippling debt. If we continue to pass deficit budgets, an unsustainable future will be the legacy we pass on to our children, and that is unacceptable. The Eleventh District deserves a Congressman who understands that.</p>
<p>After 16 years, Rodney Frelinghuysen has forgotten his obligation to our District. After 16 years, I ask you to give me a chance. I will fight to create jobs and to help our small businesses, and I will never jeopardize the competitiveness of our nation. I ask that you vote for me on Tuesday, November 2<sup>nd</sup>.</p>

Doug said, “Rodney Frelinghuysen has chosen politics over real solutions. He realized it was easier to give into a member of his party than to fight on behalf of the people of the Eleventh District.”</p>
<p>Referring to Frelinghuysen’s previous support of the project, Doug said, “My opponent had been a steadfast and public supporter of the Hudson rail tunnel project. In fact, on his Congressional website, it is listed as one of his top three priorities. Yet, when our Governor killed the project, my opponent sat by silently.”</p>
<p>“This is just the type of infrastructure project, which will make New Jersey stronger. In the short term, the ARC tunnel would create 6,000 construction jobs, and in the long term, it would create 44,000 permanent new jobs. Our gross regional product is estimated to increase by $10 billion and our real personal income by $4 billion because of this project… This project is one which we need to support and to get done.”</p>
<p>“My opponent knew that before. Yet when push came to shove, when the time to stand strong was at hand, he gave in to party politics. He caved at the expense of his District. I will never do that, and it was wrong for him to do so.  After 16 years, Frelinghuysen has decided to do what is easy instead of what is right. I promise you this: I will fight for our District, fight for our commuters and fight for the ARC Tunnel.”</p>

Doug would have supported the Education Jobs and Medicaid Assistance Act, a bill Congressman Frelinghuysen voted against, that is now returning 3,900 teachers to New Jersey&#8217;s classrooms.  Four of these positions are coming to Sparta and will restore art, music and gym to our elementary school students in addition to a librarian.&#8221;</p>

<p>Opening the debate, Doug said, “The people of this district deserve a representative who is going to go down to Washington and fight on their behalf.” Frelinghuysen opened his remarks by attacking Washington incumbents and Nancy Pelosi, in response, Doug said, “I would like to remind the Congressman that he is running against Jim and I. This election is about Rodney Frelinghuysen and his failed record.”</p>
<p>Asked about his recent vote against the ‘Education Jobs and Medicaid Assistance Act’, which put 3,900 New Jersey teachers back to work, Frelinghuysen said, “I support Governor Christie’s education reforms, and thought it unwise to pass this bill before they’re complete.” Doug responded, “I support that bill, education is a long-term investment in our country, if we do not invest in education we will fall behind countries like China.”</p>
<p>Next, Frelinghuysen was pressed by a caller about the ‘Contract with America’, which he ran on in 1994, which among other things promised 12 year term limits. Frelinghuysen said, “I did not sign term limits.” Doug countered, “I support the 12 year term limits, because we need to stop the political elitism in Washington- Congressmen who go down to Washington just for themselves and their own political interests.”</p>
<p>A small-business woman called in from Parsippany and asked the Congressman why he voted against the ‘Small Business Lending Fund’. Frelinghuysen said, “In my opinion people aren’t going to make the right type of investments.” Doug said, “Small businesses are struggling, the Small Business Administration has said that 75 percent of new job creation is going to come from small businesses. This is exactly the type of bill we need to get America working again.”</p>
<p>In his closing remarks, Doug said, “The way we take America back is by taking Washington back from incumbents like Rodney Frelinghuysen on November 2nd.”</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The first of two radio debates between Douglas Herbert and Rodney Frelinghuysen in New Jersey’s Eleventh Congressional District will occur this Sunday, October 17th at 11am. It will be broadcast on WMTR 1250 AM located out of Morristown, and the moderator will be Jessie Frees. Reporters are kindly requested to arrive at the studio by 10:45am. Photographs of the two candidates will be allowed.</p>
<p>Douglas Herbert is a veteran of the 82nd Airborne and he currently resides in Chatham, NJ. He is running against the eight-term incumbent Rodney Frelinghuysen.</p>

<p>Campaign for Congress and the importance of civic involvement.  Commenting on the numerous high schools students who volunteer with his campaign, Doug said, “It is wonderful to see young people getting involved and taking an interest in their government and the direction of this country.”</p>
<p>Speaking to the Morris Knolls High School’s Junior Statesmen of America, Doug said, “The stakes of this election could not be higher, this is your future that’s on the line. We must work to create jobs, reduce the deficit and invest in education, because America cannot continue down the same path.”</p>
<p>Answering questions from members of Roxbury High School’s faculty, Doug said, “As a father of three, I know that it is vital that we keep our educational system strong. I will not make a political gamble or place personal ambition above our children’s well-being and America’s ability to compete in the global marketplace.”</p>
